Uncanny X-Men #141

Marvel (1981)
Days of Future Past Story.   First appearance Rachel Summers (Phoenix II), Avalanche, Destiny, Pyro and the Future X-Men.  Key issue that inspired X-men films.

X-Men #141 is one of those issues where if you’re flipping through a box, you slow down, take a breath, and treat it with a little more respect. It’s not just a cool cover, it’s a cornerstone of X-Men history.

1. It’s the First Part of “Days of Future Past”

This issue (together with X-Men #142) introduced one of the most influential storylines in all of comics.  The future-timeline concept of mutants being hunted, killed, or imprisoned by Sentinels essentially invented the modern dystopian X-Men story.

It was so iconic it inspired:

  • The 1990s animated series
  • Several major comic arcs
  • The 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past

2. Historic Chris Claremont & John Byrne Era

This is deep in the legendary Claremont/Byrne run.  It's arguably the most important creative stretch in X-Men history. The storytelling, pacing, and art style hit an all-time peak here.  This issue is one of the key markers of that era.

3. The Cover Is Instantly Recognizable

The famous cover by John Byrne and Terry Austin.  Wolverine and Kitty Pryde with the “slain/apprehended” poster in the background is:

  • One of the most homaged covers in comic history

  • A top-tier “wall book” for collectors

  • A cover that even non-collectors recognize

It’s a cultural icon, not just a comic cover.
